Stories about fighting the man + falling in love

I’m Miranda* (not my real name)

By day I'm a researcher, advocate, and organizer fighting for safe, accountable technology.

By night, I write hopeful, spicy romance stories about women finding love and creating change.

Hold Your Tongue

Strike while your rival is hot.

Lysistrata “Lyssa” Athens wants to inspire her 8th graders to put down their phones and pick up a book. When her favorite student almost dies trying a dangerous challenge on the shady social media app TimeOut, Lyssa impulsively proposes a sex strike against the locally headquartered, problematically all-male company. Soon all the girls, gays, and theys in town are following her lead and crossing their legs to TimeOut bros.

Lyssa thinks abstinence will be easy until she meets Adonis Spartan, TimeOut’s strike negotiator and a dead ringer for the fictional book boyfriend she obsessively draws. As the strikers taunt TimeOut with strategic sundresses, a feminist sex toy MLM, and Fleetwood Mac-themed male exotic dancers, Lyssa can’t decide if Adonis is fantasy made flesh or a perfectly packaged trap. Tension spirals, the strike escalates, and TimeOut’s illegal actions put her career on the line. Can Lyssa keep her head (and her pants) on straight and decide what she’s really willing to fight for?

Hold Your Tongue is a digital age reimagining of Lysistrata by Aristophanes inspired by my work as an organizer for safer social media.

A Velvet Resistance

She’s destined to save witchkind. He’s duty-bound to destroy them.

Bex Golden was raised by an underground political resistance of witches to fulfill a prophecy from the mysterious first witch Evelyn. They taught Bex that she alone can stop her country from systematically destroying the emotion-powered magic only women possess.

Fane Williams is duty-bound to destroy witches. His home country has been dying ever since Evelyn cursed his people. Posing as a trainer, he infiltrates the resistance. Millions of lives depend on Fane building trust with the surprisingly intriguing and voluptuous Bex, and then betraying her.

When Bex is forced to train with Fane, she can’t decide what’s more distracting— his infuriating self-assurance, unexpected thoughtfulness, or insistence on working shirtless. But everything changes when a shocking revelation exposes that Bex is not the chosen one she thinks she is. Now Bex and Fane must face an ancient curse, a political disinformation machine, and the terrifying task of forging futures driven by decisions, not destiny, all while they fight an attraction as undeniable as it is impossible.

What will a former “chosen one” pick when it's finally her turn to choose?
